James "Kyle" Jefferies
Manastash Ridge Memorial

"Kyle, we scatter your ashes back to the earth from which all life has come. You can mingle with the flowing water, stir with the breezy air and night sky, and nestle in the rich brown warmth of the earth itself....

...on Manastash Ridge where you spent time gazing at the valley below, the distant peaks, and stars in the evening sky. Let this view remind you of your home and act as a compass giving you direction for your travels..."

The most popular hike for anyone living in Ellensburg is Manastash Ridge. It is about 2 miles in distance and overlooks the Kittitas Valley. There are several memorials at the top including one to Kyle's former wrestling coach Ray Westberg. Next to the memorial is an old shirt that has survived several winters. It lists Kyle's name on the back as a member of the varsity team at 168 lb.
Kyle's family and friends hiked the trail and held a memorial next to the mound of stones. We scattered some ashes next to the summit. It is a place we can return to and reconnect.
Kyle's memorial photo is pinned on the post looking north towards the Cascade Mountains. He has a wonderful view of our valley and the surounding mountains.
