Hockey Shooting Lesson Ideas

Explain shooting
- Forehand (wrist shot)
  - Lean on stick and push with bottom hand and pull in with top hand
  - "Turn over" your bottom wrist to point the tip of your stick at the target (follow through)
- Remind of "high sticking" penalties
- All shoot at their own spot on the wall
  - Teacher go around and check for proper technique
    - Correct grip
    - Follow through
    - Stick kept below knees
Application:
- Shooting relays
- All stand in a line in small groups
- Each has own stick and one puck to share
  - Give them a set amount of time (:30, :60) to see how many times they can dribble the puck down to the opposite purple line and shoot the puck into the net
  - See if they can beat their best score
    - Points for scoring goals:
    - In the goal=1 point
    - Hit the blue flag in the net=5 points
Shoot away
- Set up one goal at each end
- Put a small basket in one corner of each end
- Teams try to shoot the pucks into the other team's goal
- If they score, they may cross into the other team's end to go get the puck they scored with
  - They bring that puck to their side and place it into the small basket on their side
  - Every puck in their basket is a point for their team
- Teams "win" the round if they score more goals that the round before
- Teams may have one goalie if they wish
- Must use goalie stick and wear goggles
- STRESS HIGH STICKING!
