How should I do my outdoor education unit for high school? I would like to do the trust-building/communication activities, but we do not have the weather at all to go outside, and we have limited equipment. |

There are four activities that i would use in trust building and communication. 1st I would do a two person human spring. the two students see how far they can get apart and still support each other when they fall together. This activity tests their own limits and bulids communication and trust. 2nd I would do a two person trust lean. But before you do that you have to teach the students the proper spotting technique. The student stands as still as possible and the catcher has their hands on the fallers back and the faller just slowly falls back. The catcher bends the elbows and brings the faller to their body then pushes them back upright. You can come up with comands that the students can give each other when doing the tasks. 3rd. I would do a three person trust lean. It is basically the same as a two person trust lean but there is a catcher in front and in back. the catchers just move the faller back and forth never taking their hands off the faller. All three of these activities build up to a trust fall. All you need here is a plyometrics box of any size. During this activity you must stress that this is a serious activity and everyone must be focused. teach the students commands. Have all of the students interlock arms or Zipper up their arms when they are catchers. Also stress that if they dont feel comfortable doing the fall then they dont have to. you as the teacher stand with the student who is falling and reassure them. this isnt all the steps in a trust fall just basic information. but all of these activities are good for communication, trust, and teamwork building. I learned all of these activities in a Outdoor class in college! |
