I was wondering if anybody went to a school or taught in a school(perferably high school level)where PE was offered more than once a week. I only had it one time per week in my school for 40 minutes and I feel that doesn't benefit anyone. Also, how would I go about trying to get PE to be offered more frequently in a school? |

I went to a high school, where I had PE twice a week. I feel that is still not enough time for students to be in physical activity. My personal opinion is that when you are teching your class, make the most of it. Make your lessons fun and exciting, yet still physical. Try to get your students to enjoy their activites. You could also assess them in PE. You could have them take what they learned in the class and take it home and do the activities with their families. You want to try to get the students to stay active inside and outside the classroom. You need to try out this website...you could use it for your students to assess them. All they have to do is sign up for it...I promise you are going to love it... www.getactivestayactive.com

In my high school PE was offered about 3 times a week. It was about a 40min class. The only way I think you could get PE taught more is show the school how important PE really is. Sometimes that is easier said than done. Also like Lindsay said try to get the activities fun and enjoyable that the students would try to use them outside of class that would help with getting them active with only 1 day a week PE classes. |
