Hi all, I am a student in Australia studying Physical Education. I was wondering, what are your thoughts on the importance teaching PE when kids are young. I believe that it is extremely important and more emphasis is place on more general learning. They should be hand in hand. Kids should be fit and healthy while learning at school, and participating in PE achieves this. What are your thoughts? |

I agree to your belief in that it is extremely important for young children to be involved in physical education. Not only would PE develop a child physically, it would also help them develop interpersonal relationships with other students. These interpersonal relationships help children understand the importance of sharing, cooperating, and it allows them to support and encourage their peers. Also, physical activity is important for a child's cognitive development. Many activites can be used in PE that can teach the concepts in other subject areas such as math, spelling, and social studies. PE is important!!! |

I agree with your belief on the importance of teaching PE when kids are young. The younger that we teach these students, then the better off that they are going to be in their lives. I believe that children need to be informed about the importance of PE and health at an early age so that they can carry it with them throughout their adulthood. If a child learns to be healthy and fit at an early age, then they are more likely to stay physically fit and healthy. The percent of childhood obesity is outrageous right now. We as future PE teachers need to change the way that these students look at PE. |

I think that teaching P.E. when kids are young is the most important time. If you teach them how important it is to be physicaly fit and active at a young age, maybe the number one problem in kids wouldn't be obesity. Also, if we teach P.E. to young kids in fun, enjoyable ways it would show kids that being fit and active can be fun and they would want to do it more. |

I agree also that physical education should be taught to students in early years. They can learn things much quicker when they are young. They also need to learn to be active at an early age. The positive effects of being active as a young child will carry over to them as they become adults and being physically active will be second nature to them. They will be able to lead healthier lives as adults. |
