Banking on Fitness Pass out play dollars that have exercises and activities written on the back of them. I laminate the dollars. Give each student a banking slip that has columns for each denomination. They write a tally mark in each column when they complete the activity. Then they return the dollar to the banker(teacher) for a new one. At the end of the activity have the students count up how much money they earned by exercising. |

Hello I have been looking for a good fun game that would get students involved and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. |

A very good fitness activity is builders and bulldozers. It is a game played with cones and two groups of students. The 'builders' is the name of one group. Their job is to pick up the cones that are lying down. The 'bulldozers' is the name of the other group, and their job is to knock down the standing cones. This can be done with using different variations like using different locomotor movements to travel. Then you can change how the bulldozers knock the cones over (ex. using your right elbow, using your left knee). Than after a little while have the groups switch roles. It is a fun and tiring game. Do not make the playing area too big. Your main focus is a lot of movement. |

Scott, I love this activity called high ten/everybody's it. The procedure is everybody is on and you can choose to catch someone by tapping them on the shoulder or if somebody is caught you can give them a high ten to free them. This is such an easy activity and it gets all the students involved. Maria |

As a Irish student do you think students in American schools would accept the introduction of a foreign sport, for instance Hurling(Irish) to their PE class that is of course providing equipment was readily available for them. I do know that Americans play alot of hockey and soft/baseball so i do know that they would be able to play this quiet well.. i would love to see this sport excell world wide other than the Irish playig it.. we have actually taken up American football in our schools in Ireland so perhaps its time to share the love of our sport.. what do you think.. thank you Aoife Lynskey |

Fun agility activities. Get an agility ladder (most football teams have one) and let the children naturally perform locomoter movements on them. Ex. one footed hops, two footed jumps, running every other ladder, jumping inside and outside of the ladders. The goal is to not let your feet make contact with any part of the ladder. Friendly competition can be made by having two ladders with two teams and having them race against their partners. There are hundreds of ideas for fun variations if you look online. Ladders are a great asset for football teams and for physical education class. |
