With obesity rising every year who should we point our fingers at? Some factors are genetics and money, but with those aside parents are the reason. If you see at a obese mother and father, look at their child and they too will be obese. I think that parents should take more responsibility and become active themselves and role models. How can parents tell their children to lose weight when they need to look in the mirror themselves. I think schools should try to become mroe involved with the sudent's parents and educate them too. Many parents are just uneducated when it coems to nutrition. What do you think? |

Yes, I agree with what you are saying but the parents aren't always to blame. When a kid reaches a certain age, they make their own decisions. That is just part of growing up. I believe that the schools should better educate the students and pursue better nutrition inside the cafeteria. They can do this be eliminating vending machines full of soft drinks and offer food with better nutritional value.

I agree 100% I think that as a whole America has to change. Children see all the overweight people around them and think that it is normal or what they are suppose to be. Parents and elders need to understand that kids look up to them, and what kind of role model are they when they tell their kids to change when they are not changing themselves? |

I definitely think that the way we live today and what is considered acceptable is outrageous and contributes to our unhealthy population. I wouldn't put all of the blame on the parents because society seems to accept people who sit around and watch TV. But there has to be some type of model made by the parents. It would be ideal to continually teach the students how to eat healthy and then hope that they would go home and educate their parents. A week (or so) could be spent in PE/health class as a "bring in a healthy meal day" so that the student must then go home and get their parents involved in cooking a healthy meal to share and tell. At the end of the week the recipes are copied and handed to each student. |

I agree that America as a whole must change but we need to focus on the parents and get them educated so that they may be able to educate their children. This will be the most effective way in fighting childhood obesity. We need to educate the parents of today to help all the future generations to come before it gets out of control. Physical educators should hold workshops for the student's parents to come and learn. |
