Every college athletic team across the country has a training program and set practices but what about nutrition and dieting for athletes? Depending on the sport that you are involved in you need to have a proper diet to help your body preform at it's highest level. For example college football players should have meal plans that can help them increase size and strength and runners should high carb diets in order to help themthrough their long workouts. College kids may not always make good nutrition decisons but I believe athletic teams would have more success if they helped improved the diets of their athletes.

As a softball player who plays at the intercollegiate level, I do feel that it is necessary to have athletes know about proper nutrition. A person can tell someone how to eat but if they don’t know exactly how to start it or stick with it, it will not be effective. Nutrition is something that I feel the athletes should take an interest in because of the amount of physical activity and stress they are putting on his or her bodies. I know that my when my sport is not in season and we are just doing conditioning practices, we have practices at 6pm one day, 8pm another day, and 11pm another day. Eating right and healthy has a huge part in how athletes will perform at practices and in games. I would love if my university had the funds to hire someone to educate my teammates and myself about nutrition and dieting.

As a person who plays women's rugby at high level and is part of a structures training program, I have been given a lot of information about the importance of nutrition and how vital it is to look after you body to preform at your best at a high level. I definitely feel that you cant have one with out the other, an athlete needs to know about proper nutrition, sleep and recovery protocols to get the best out of their training programs.
