I believe that PE teachers are invaluable because our of influence on children and our interaction with students everyday; therefore, I believe that we have a huge responsibility in the so-called "obesity epidemic."What do you believe is our role?Should we promote only physical activity?Healthy eating patterns? Should we be responsible to encourage certain standards such as 5 fruits and vegetables a day? What is a Physical Educators role in the obesity epidemic and in its prevention?

I believe we as physical educators have a huge role in trying to curb childhood obesity. I think many parents do not emphasize healthy eating or exercising. If the parents are not going to push their kids to get active and eat right, then we have to. Our role, in my opinion, is anything and everything we can do. We have to be the catalists in trying to stop this epidemic, no matter how much we have to do.

Pretty much what Greg said...as phys ed/health instructors we should hold ourselves to a certain standard in the way we look. If we are over-weight and under-conditioned then it provides a bad example. We should role model what we teach.
