Recently I have heard a lot of discussion about new forms of anorexia. Specifically "Drunkorexia". Drunkorexia describes someone who does not eat for an entire day when they know that night they are going out drinking. This is done to prevent consuming too many calories from food and alcohol that day, and to be able to consume more alcohol. This form of anorexia is seen mostly in college females.
What do you think about this form of anorexia? Do you believe it is a mental disorder or simply a fad? What are your thoughts on prevention of this disease amoung college females?

I personally feel that it shouldn't be considered a form of anorexia. There are still calories being consumed willingly. For most it is probably just a fad and not a mental disorder. For some though who do suffer with anorexia they may do this not knowingly for which they should get help. There is no real way for the prevention of this happening. To the extreme though if someone does not eat all day and drinks enough to throw up then there is a need for some serious concer with which I feel the colleges should provide programs to help students understand the negative health effects.

This IS a form of anorexia. I had it in high school and unfortunately, I would do just the above. If I knew I was going to party, I would eat even less during the day because I knew I would be drinking carbs so to speak that night. It is NOT a fad,it is a problem/extension of anorexia. Then again, is this really any different as adults, knowing we have 2 holiday parties in one night, and not eating all day or eating lightly because you KNOW you will be eating and drinking merrily at the parties that night? how is it any different really? you have to cut calories somewhere to get it from somewhere else,,,,

I believe that this is a form of anorexia. Excercise anorexia is also a form of anorexia where the person is also still consuming calories but works out to burn off whatever they just ate. It is definitely a psychological thing because you're obsessing over the calorie intake for your body.
