When is a good age to start teaching sex ed. in schools? With kids "experimenting" at earlier ages every year should we begin to educate earlier? Do you think taht educating kids actually just gives them ideas? What's everyone's thoughts on this? |

I believe that kids are learning about sex at a younger age. My concern is that because adults in their lives aren't the ones interpreting a correct sex ed, they will experience more. I believe a good age to start sex ed is Middle School level. We need to be open with our kids and maybe that will cause the curiosity to lessen. |

No question that kids are learning about/having sex at a very nowdays. In my opinion-they should be taught in either their 7th or 8th grade. I don't think it gives them any ideas about having sex. They're getting all this incorrect information from their friends who think they know what they're talking about. We need to provide them with all the facts about sex and hopefully they will use in a safe and responsible way. |

I feel that it is neccessary to teach the basics of sex education such as the female and male reproductive organs, what puberty is, and what to expect when going through it should be taught in the elementary schools. I know that sounds crazy to some people, but if you think about it some girls are begining menstruation at the age of 8. As far as sex education of sexual activity and consequences of it goes, I think that should definitly be taught at the early middle school level. Kids are having oral sex and intercourse at that age even if they don't really comprehend what it really is. |

I think that teaching sex ed. at the elementary level would be a good idea. No matter what we teach kids in health classes, there are some students that are still going to chose to involve themselve in risky behavior. I know that every teacher tries to promote abstinence, but in this day in age, that just isn't realistic anymore. I think that still should be taught, but the focus should be on promoting safe sex. Kids are having sex at such an early age these days, and some haven't even learned how to put on a condom. Teaching how to avoid pregnancy and sexual transmitted deseases should be the main focus of sex ed and should be taugh as early an age as possible. |
