SNF and USDA Announce “Solving the Food Allergy Puzzle” Workshop The School Nutrition Foundation and USDA are partnering to offer an 8-hour workshop on managing food allergies in schools on Sunday, June 28, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV. Titled “Solving the Food Allergy Puzzle”, this workshop will be part of the pre-conference offerings for the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference 2009. This interactive seminar will feature national, state, and local guidance and best practices. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of the legal and regulatory responsibilities surrounding food allergy management in schools and action steps to address their school district’s efforts. The workshop is intended for school nutrition operators and others in the school nutrition field. Speakers will include Samia Hamdan, MPH, RD, Nutritionist for Special Nutrition Programs at the USDA-FNS Midwest Regional Office; Gilda Karu, USDA-FNS Midwest Regional Office (retired); Elizabeth Bugden, consultant; Katie Millett, Director of Child Nutrition Programs at the Massachusetts Department of Education; and Cindy Hormel, MM, RD, LD, SNS, Child Nutrition Director at Liberty School District in Kansas City, MO.
