It seems like each year the requirements for students to graduate from high school are being changed continuously. With the ever changing curriculum, do you think physical education should be a requirement, just like getting a certain score on the standardized tests (S.A.T.s)? |

Yes, I think PE should be a requirement. With all of the obeasity levels rising in our country we need to do something about it. PE is one way to start. I also think that students can not sit in a chair all day. They need some time to get up and run around. |

I agree that it should be a requirement, in fact I believe students should be required to do more than 2 semesters of physical education which is what most schools require. Not only should students get up to run around and take their minds off school work, they should want to go out and run around and exercise a bit - it shouldn't be something they are forced to do, but their favorite part of the day. |

Absolutely, it should be a requirement just like all the other classes. I agree with Erin, I think students should have to do more than 2 semesters of p.e. to graduation. I also think just because you participate in band and chior should not get you out of p.e. You should still have to do p.e. 5 days a week like the other students. Many schools have it 2 times a week and every other week 3 times. It shouldn't be any different for those students. |

There is no doubt in my mind that P.E should be a requirement. Just because your in a gymnasium and having fun doesn't make a good enough reason to cancel P.E. The obesity levels in todays world are higher than they ever been. How else will they get exercise. Physical Education is changing to focus more on a health/fitness aspect than the regular P.E. traditional games. It will be just plain stupid if they got rid of P.E. |

Yes, of course it should be required! Children and teens these days are not concerned with the damage they are doing to their bodies and their future! I think you should have it 3 times a week. Why do people not see the importance?? It just boggles my mind! Without education on health and fitness we are sending these teens off into the world to make bad choices on exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle choices! It should be required! |

P.E. should definitely be a requirement in high school. Health is way more important than anything else, so it seems silly to me that schools take away physical education programs. At my high school, we only were required to take two years of physical education, and I completely disagree with that. There have been countless studies that show how vital physical activity is, so why is physical education the first to go in schools? America has a huge obesity problem and if P.E. teachers can't teach every student the proper and best way to stay fit, the pant sizes of Americans will not be getting any smaller. Truthfully, if students are not in a physical education program they will not be active as much as they need to be unless they are an athlete. This is exactly why P.E. needs to be required, so that these students are active at school, since they aren't at home and in their community. It is as simple as that. |

At my high school it is required to graduate. Students must participate two quarters a year with the other quarter being health and the final quarter a graduation portfolio class. Unfortunately, we are a pass / fail class in P.E. We are looking to transition from our sports based program to a wellness based physical education environment where the focus is on developing healthy, active, lifestyle habits with regular, individual exercise and proper nutrition. Like many places, there is little funding to do this. The education department needs to take a stand on the obesity problem that is developing in our children and ensure funding for a strong PE/Health program in schools to help fight this battle. |
