1. Why did you decide to become a teacher/personal trainer/coach or go into rehab? Because I like to wear shorts. Long answer: I love playing and working with children. I had a great PE teacher in Jr High and he inspired me to be a "coach" (what they call me). I feel like what I do is important to all the children I see each day. 2. Where did you receive your training or education? University of Fla (go gators) 3. What do you love most about your job? The kids I work with and seeing them improve or finally excel in our activities. 4. What are some of the biggest challenges you face? Increasingly abused or messed up kids from awful homes. 5. How many students or clients do you interact with daily? 140-150 6. Describe a regular work day. Get to work about 645 to 7 and have coffee. If its Friday I go on the morning announcements. Have six 40 minute PE classes. With a 30 minute lunch and a thirty minute planning period. Kids leave at 2 7. What are some of your goals for your career? To continue teaching PE until I am 65. To keep children engaged and excited about movement and exercise and learning skills and games 8. Who has helped influence your career? (Explain why) My Jr High PE teacher. He was the best teacher I ever had (including classroom teachers) He ended up as a Prof. at Middle Tenn State, 9. What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of pursuing a job like yours? Wear sunscreen everyday and a good hat. Expect the unexpected. Every child can do something well. The key is finding what it is and using that as a springboard to other skills. LISTEN to the kids. They have important things to tell you. |
