We as Physical educators are very powerful people. Some of us may not realize that we have a big influence on people's health and lifestyle. A Physical Educator at the elementary school level needs to make sure that his/her students are having fun and want to do the activities. We should not have students be doing running or push-ups as a punishment, but we should have this be fun. At the High School level, students have already made up their minds about Physical Education. This is important to keep reminding them how important activity is their entire life, and to keep having them have fun. Physical educators need to be the example, and show students that physical education is not a joke, and can lead them to a longer and a more enjoyable life.

I agree with you completely. My elementary kids almost worship me. If you make it fun and keep them busy and treat them fairly they will run through walls for you. I think if PE was 30-40 minutes everyday and the teachers kept it varied and exciting American kids would be much healthier, happier and would perform better in the classroom. My local county (five elementary schools) each host a tournament (soccer/basketball/field day/softball etc) and we use that as an incentive for kids to behave and work harder in the classroom. IT WORKS.

I agree. Physical Educators can have a huge impact on students. My PE teacher in high school inspired me to want to become a PE teacher. Also, she got me started playing softball and running track which is something that I will do for the rest of my lifetime. These people and influences in your life are very important on every level. I like the tournament idea.

Even though most people won’t agree or realize it, Physical Educators are one of the most important figures in any kids’ life. Not only are we elementary kids' second parents, but we are also high school kids best friends. If all Physical Education teachers did what they are supposed to, the youth of today would not have to deal with this obesity issue. My high school PE teacher was my friend my coach my trainer as well as my PE teacher. It is because of teachers like that, that most of us decided that this was the career path for us.
