When you go into any interview, a question someone might ask is, "do you have any tattoos?" My answer would be yes, and I am proud of the ink I have on my body. My grandparents names are on both of my wrists and I never thought twice about getting them because they are meaningful to me, but why should these tattoos that have meaning to me be looked down upon when applying for a teaching job? In my mind, if a tattoo is not offensive in any way it shouldn't matter if you have them or not. What do you think about the subject of teachers having tattoos? |

I live in America, like you , and feel it is an issue of personnal freedom. Unfortunately, many in this country don't think like you or I.

I have a tattoo, but is on my back. In our country, especially in education, the views are very conservative. I live in Pennsylvania and alot tattoos are pretty, they make peoples attitude change. I would question someones thought of rashional decision making if a teacher had an offensive tattoo, but nevertheless accept it. Tattoos are a huge part of the American culture, unfortunately the conservative views of educational administrators hinder tattoo acceptance. |

Well julie i also have a tattoo on my upper arm and the inside of my bicep. It is a very large tattoo but before i got it i knew i wanted to be a teacher so i picked a place that i could hide it. My t-shirts do cover it and is not a large concern of mine. The reason it is looked down apon is because we are role models and parents want people without ink that seem to be more responsible even know they may not be. |

i think if they are appropriate then its no big deal, if we start teaching our students that it is not ok to express themselves and be confident with themselves then we are hurting them |

I too have tattoos and I'm honestly not worried about getting a job whenever it comes time for that. I have them both on my wrists and as a Physical Education teacher, i can hide them easily if I'm asked to do so. Long sleeves or wristbands would do the trick so I don't see it being a problem. |

I also have tattoos on my body in places that I can easily cover up for interviews and for my job. The only tattoo I cannot easily cover up would be my tattoo on my wrist that says "DIABETES". I feel as if I should not be looked down upon for having this certain tattoo because it is for a medical reason. Instead of me wearing a medical bracelet, having this tattoo is much easier because I can never break it or lose it while I am being active. |
