I think the best way to help this problem is finding someone who is older for them to talk to. I had an eating disorder all through high school and a little into college. It last about 4.5 years. I didn't have anyone in high school to talk to about it because I didn't want someone who didn't realize what I was going through to judge me on it. After I was able to finally stop my eating disorder because of my closest friends I found someone who was older than I who had gone through the same problems I did. If I had known her four years earlier I do not think it would have extended to where I was in the end of 4.5 years. I think realizing signs early on is a good way to notice it and some how get this person who has been through things to ease their way into it with the young girl being effected. It is hard sometimes to start conversation on what is going on because the young girls are going to deny what is happening. But once these girls realize their not the only one who has had problems then they might open up and get their problem solved early. It can be a hard thing to fix safely but I have noticed that sometimes things don't get better until they get worse. |
