Other than simple tumbling activities does anyone teach skills on the apparatuses? What kind of skills do you teach? |

Once we do three days of tumbling on the mats, the equipment comes out. We have stations the rest of the unit where they go to 2 stations a day. After that (since now they have an understanding of what skills are appropriate) we go through the stations again, but the kids go to all stations each class. Our stations are rope tricks/rings (climbing ropes that they do ring skills on), group balances, vault (k-2 springboard and no vault), balance beam, climbing ropes, traverse rock wall (grades 2-5), and tumbling. 4th and 5th grade students memorize and perform routines for medals. |

We do tumbling but, since gymnastics is a dying sport for the masses, we've replaced apparatus with adventure ed. such as rock climbing and project adventure. We weighed the benefits of each and P.A. coupled with adventure ed. came out on top. It wasn't even close. |
