I have to do some article reviews for a "Reading in the content area" class I am taking this summer. I have done a ton of searches trying to find any kinds of articles that talk about incorporating reading or vocabulary teaching skills/lessons into my designated field of P.E and/or Health. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything related to activities or journal articles that talk about this subject. If anyone can please direct me to a good resource page or any articles on this subject I would greatly appreciate any leads or help I can get. Thank you!!

Sarah- I have found some neat workbooks that incorporate nice stories and physical activity. Unfortunately with it being summer vacation my books and texts are at school. I purchased them at a teachers supply store in the area. If you have a reading specialist in your school system he/she might be able to steer you in the right direction. I have a Master's in Reading along with my health and physical education degrees, I try to tie in reading, spelling (vocabulary) words as much as possible in a lesson. The classroom teachers really appreciate the reinforcement. I hope this is some help to you. Good luck!

I am from California and working for LAUSD. I am part of a focus group that is trying to lower our class size from an average of 55, this means that some times we have classes of 84. I would like to know what other states class average is and if there are any safty studies that pertane to class size. Pleas help!

I am currently working on an Honors Thesis regarding The NASPE Standards for Physical Education and current highschool practices. I am searching for any literature (articles, websites, texts, etc.) that has information rearding the educational benefits (e.g., improved student learning) of using the Standards. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott

Please help! I need some elementary worksheets to assist the students in understanding the concept of cariovascular fitness, and what activities are considered aerobic. Also, worksheets to assist the students distinguish between locomotor, manipulative, and nonlocomotor or axial activities of the body are needed. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Since our elementary physical education has been cut to one day per week, as in most of our schools (The School District of Lancaster, PA), I believe the worksheets mentioned, that have been found to be extremely scarce in many searches I have conducted, would be a helpful homework resource to assist in meeting our state standards. Thank you for reading this and condiderind my situation. Sincerely, Gene

I am looking for journals or articles that give the benefits to using multiple assessment tools in physical education class....I am working on a research paper so pro's and con's are needed... I would appreciate any/all help in finding specific journals with this information in them... I am finding a lot of articles that just briefly mention assessments in P.E.. I know how important it is...but finding exactly what I want...seems very limiting

Dear Sarah, Check out Jean Blaydes Madigan's book, Thinking On Your Feet. She is a neurokinesiologist. I attended a workshop she did this past summer about teaching literacy through physical activity. She is an excellent presenter and teacher. I hope this helps. jalopydi |
