I was starting a new section, which is dancing, and was wondering if anyone had success in the past with certain dance methods? |

I think elementary is the best age to do this unit. Any older and kids will think it's not "cool". But at the elementary level. I think it is a great way to keep kids active. |

Dancing is great in the elementary levels of education. Kids look forward to activities like that. When they get older they start to realize that they are shy of the opposite sex and then it becomes a problem to dance. |

I know that elementary students love to dance. I have a 5 year old cousin and I have observed many elementary Physical Education classes because my dad is a principal so I can get into the schools easy. One of the teachers used it as part of her warm-up she would put different music on each class and tell the students to show her their best dance moves. They LOVED it. In high school, we had a dance section we could take and it usually would have 10 to 15 people in it. Therefore, I think that it is a topic that many students would like and they would benefit from it too. |

there are many different programs that can be used and that are helpful at different age levels. such programs as dance dance revolution is great at all levels and there are also programs such as hopps sports that offer a virtual aspect to p.e. and can lead the kids through dance routines if you are not a strong dancer yourself. i hope this helps! |

Has anyone used Christy Lane's Dancing through the Decades DVD? It contains dances from the 50's - 80's. Just curious if it's worth purchasing to assist our department in developing an elementary dance unit. |

I am not yet a Physical Education teacher I am still in school but I find dancing a great way to get elementary students excited and moving in class. I have movement education at Slippery Rock University and I love it. We have a blast learning all of the folk dances and goofy ice breakers beginning class. If we as college students have blast dancing to music and working on Laban's movement grid elementary students will have blast and enjoy the activities. |
