I feel with the amount of students who are obese our society, I think it's important for physical educators to teach proper nutrition in all elementary schools. I know i was truley never taught the importance of Nutrition or even how to read labels on food. I think if elementary aged students starting about at the age 8 or 9 should have a nutrition class teaching them how to read food labels and teaching them about well balanced diets. What do you think? |

I think that is a great idea. With so many obese children today I can only trace it back to the fact that they were never taught proper nutrition and a balanced diet. In elementary school, I was never taught anything about eating right, well not that I can remember. But I think that starting kids early at learning what is good and bad for them would possibly lower our obesity issues. |

I agree that teaching children about nutrition at a young age is a good idea. But I don't think that just teaching kids how to read a label is going to be enough. I remember learning how to read labels in middle school, but that didn't help me very much when I was faced with a food decision where I couldnt read a label. Not only do we need to teach the children how to read a label, but we need to teach children how to make smart food decisions, such as, whether to choose a hand full of chips or a piece of fruit. I think that if they are taught how to snack smarter at a younger age, they will keep doing so as they age. I think that doing just a few small things could go a long way and help the obesity problem. |

Great Idea! The sooner kids learn about nutrition the better as long as they grasp the concept. They need to learn that over time that eating the fruit instead of the chips is going to greatly contribute to them being healthy as adults. We need to get kids active, but we also have to get them to eat right too. |
