Elementary school age is so young and impressionable. My hope is to create games that students will want to continue to play outside of the classroom, but I need help on getting started with the list of fun games. What are some games that could involve everyone that would make the students want to go home and continue to play? |

One game that I find a lot of kids like is Poison Ball (aka Prison Ball). It's basically "team keep-away". I'm sure many of you have seen it, taught it or played it. Players really stay active and there are ways to be sure all players receive the ball. I won't go into all the rules unless there is interest or a need for them. Stephanie |

You can play musical dribbling. Concept just like musical chairs. Lay out hula hoops around the gym floor. The students individually dribble around the gym and when the music stops they go to the nearest hoop, hold the ball and stick one foot inside the hoop. Take away a hoop between each segment of music. Eventually the students will get very crowded. Change up their dribbling for each segment of music(have them cross dribble, right hand only, left only) and don't make it elimination. |

One game that I thought was creat is called builder and bulldozers. It just consists of cone place throughout the gym floor. The bulldozers knock the cones down, while the builder pick them back up. After a period of time just stop them to see how many were knocked down, and switch roles. It could be played with music appropriate to the kids. |

For builders and dozers, I used empty plastic bottles that the kids brought in. The kids loved it because they made a lot of noise. We generally used elbows (with hands on hips) to knock down the "buildings" but sometimes knees were specified. We didn't count the number of knocked down buildings, we just switched roles. At the end of the activity, all buildings went to the dump (the storage box). |
