At this level elem. PE teachers need to start off children in the right direction for the rest of their physically active lives. Also here is where you start to educate the parents on the importance of PE for their child. Comments? |

I totally agree with your comment - I believe elementary PE is crucial to developing lifelong learners of physical activity. From the age of 0-7, this is the age at which their brain's are developing at the fastest rate. If we can expose these children to many different activities, they are more likely to maintain being active for the rest of their lives. |

The elementary physical education class experiences can have a huge impact on the future physical activity level, fitness level, and overall health of the students. I try to teach my students a wide variety of physical activities, skills, and games so that they can see that there are so many ways to be healthy and active. I tell them to try many activities, find one or more that you like to participate in, and participate in that skill or game whenever you can. Creating physically educated kids that are lifelong movers can help their overall health, wellness, and happiness. |

I also believe that elementary PE is where children will begin to shape their physically active lives. Because children in the elementary level tend to be more receptive to activities that are being presented, I believe that getting students to enjoy and participate daily in physical activity is very important. And since parents are more involved in the students education at an early age and the elementary level, our job as physical educators is very important to educate not only the students but their parents and have them get involved in their childs physical activity and have them encourage their children to be more active. |
