Hello all. I currently teach K-12 pe at a private school. Although my Kindergarten and First grade are the most excitable group, I have a few issues with some "lazy kids." I have let the kids know that when they get tired, there is a certain area in the gym that they get to rest for a few minutes and then come back into the activity. I have a few who seem to abuse this concept and love to "visit" with their friends for the entire time. As most of you know, it is hard to try and manage the rest area and still be inclusive in my teaching and monitoring of the game and rest of class. What are some ways you all deal with this? I don't won't to discourage my rest area, however I am tired of it becoming a visit area where they abuse their rest time. |

Hi Cherea, One idea that might help is to provide your rest area with a timer. Decide how long the rest area should be used for (1 min-2min), and when the timer goes off the child goes back to play. If you have a Dollar Store near you, it can be a very cheap solution. Hope this helps! |

Never usually have this problem while teaching. Resting once in a while is important. I try very hard to continually build their fitness throughout the whole year. This really cuts down on "I'M TIRED" statements. |

I implemented the YBE method: Your Best Effort. I jsut repeat that to the kids if I see some "Laziness" and they usually will start trying harder. |
