Ulitimate frisbee is a great way to get elementary students motivated and excited about class, but to modify the activity, should i use a soft ball and allow more than three steps after the students catcht the frisbee?

No steps needed in my experience.

Use small sided games: 2 v 1, 3 v 3

I start with cold defense. The defenders must walk and may not guard the player with the ball or disc.

I start with a 7" coated foam ball. My 4th and 5th graders are using a disc after a few classes. The 3rd graders seem to need the ball still.

I recommend Mitchell, Griffin & Oslin, _Sport_Foundations_for_Elementary_Physical_Educati on - A_Tactical_Games_Approach

I agree it was always my favorite. There are a few ways to make the game targeted towards elementary students. They have softer frisbees that almost anyone can throw and they are easier to catch. Also try other balls such as; ultimate football or a softer ball. You could add in equipment of different sizes and shapes to keep it intersting or make the games smaller so everyone is moving.

Ultimate frisbee is an excellent sport to incorporate in the elementary level of physical education. I am student at the University of Texas majoring in kinesiology, I recently took a team sports course that involved ultimate frisbee. I believe it is beneficial to elementary students because it provides them to explore honesty at an early age. The sport contains to referees and is a great way to develop sportsmanship and honesty within physical activity. Students have the opportunity to explore freedom and build team thinking skills. I know if I become a PE teacher, I would definitely incorporate ultimate frisbee into my lesson plans.

Ultimate frisbee is an excellent sport to incorporate in the elementary level of physical education. I am student at the University of Texas majoring in kinesiology, I recently took a team sports course that involved ultimate frisbee. I believe it is beneficial to elementary students because it provides them to explore the moral trait of honesty at an early age. The sport contains no referees and is a great way to develop sportsmanship and honesty within physical activity. Students have the opportunity to explore freedom and build team thinking skills. If a PE teacher is looking to teach a physical activity that has a focus on responsibility, Ultimate is a great to do so. Students will have the advantage to learn a completely new skill and also learn about managing rules and regulations on their own. As mentioned before, Ultimate contains no referees and is monitored purely from the base of the students. This might be difficult to approach to elementary students, but I believe in the late elementary years such as 4th and 5th grade, students being to experience responsibility much more. It is always great to use team building skills in physical education, but it is even better when a unit of responsibility is also applied. Students will be able to ref their own game and monitor the game within themselves. A teacher may also grade them on honesty skills within the game as well. I know if I become a PE teacher, I would definitely incorporate ultimate frisbee into my lesson plans.
