Hi, Just wondering if anyone has a good playlist of upbeat music to jumprope to. I'm ordering the "Jump In" soundtrack, but hoping to get some other new tunes before we do our Jump Rope For Heart next month. Thanks so much! CJ Eugene, OR |

Christine: Just a comment. I know that Hip-Hop is all the rage these days, but at the end of my career in the late 90's, Jump Rope was a big deal in our curriculum. We used lots of 50's rock and roll (Elvis, Bill Haley, Jan and Dean, Beachboys, etc) and used swing music as well (Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, the Dorsey Brothers). We believed that it is important to expose kids to all kinds of music, and the swing and some latin and even some really uptempo classical all went over well with our kids. The more varied you own interests are, the easier it is to find suitable music. The classical you usually have to make your own cd's. I used the 1812 overture, Mendelsons Italian Symphony, the 4th movement of Beethovens 5th symphony and parts of Dvoraks and Schubert's 9th symphonies. It was all so good, that I played it at the start and finish of cross country meets and that went over well, too. I know that there is a wealth of of commercial music out there and much of it is really good, but I always liked to put my own together. Joe Herzog, Fresno |

Christine - Have you contacted your Local American Heart Association. In Wisconsin with our packet they gave us a music cd that had good lively music and no inappropriate lyrics. Hope this helps - good luck at your event! Jane Keily Milwaukee |

Christine, This website may help you to find some songs that you can use for your Jump Rope activity. I found this site just a few days ago when searching for music that I can walk to when I go to the gym. I have also found that a lot of old 80's songs can have a good beat to walk to and might be of help to you with jump roping. My favorite songs to walk to are Celebration by Kool & The Gang, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and I'm Every Woman by Whitney Houston. This website allows you to purchase the mp3's for $.99 but if you have other ways of downloading or getting them that would save you some money. At any rate, I hope this site deems as helpful to you as it did for me! http://mywalkingmusic.com/store/products.php?cat_id=3 Shawna Slippery Rock, PA |
