Hi. I'd love to have your input on a few things! Do any of you have certain protocols for the locker room as it pertains to locks and gym clothes? I have students who are forgetful and either don't lock their lock, or lose their gym clothes. Others leave their clothes behind and before I know it, I have a full bag of lost and found items. Do any of you have ideas that have helped alleviate this kind of problem for your classes? Thanks!! |

Don't know if your kids dress and immediately go to a roll call area or activity, but here are a couple of suggestions. While time is always precious, don't rush your kids to dress and move on. Give them an extra 60 seconds to be thoughtful and thorough. We had our kids (middle school) sit in front of their locker before they could leave the locker room and it was easy just to look down the rows to see if everything was put away. As to kids forgetting their gym clothes, I think that that falls in line with "gum chewing." We used a loaner clothes system; clean, neat and laundered daily. We had shirts marked "PE loaner", but I would no longer do that, because we ran into problems with kids not wanting to wear the shirt. Perhaps just a basic "T" shirt, marked Phys. Educ. #1, #2, etc. If you have the $$$, there are any number of PE loaner clothes on the market that are pretty nice. Joe Herzog, Fresno, CA We went to built in locks which, in the long run turned out to be cheaper, saved a TON of time, and never had to deal with lost locks, again. Also made it easy for me to computerize the system, though my colleagues wouldn't use the computer so we still maintained a paper/pencil backup. |
