Hello, I'm a future PE teacher and I'm interested in teaching at the elementary level. I believe that PE testing at this level should be used sparingly. I think that at this level we should teach kids the basics and the correct way to do things. I believe Starting kids off on the right foot in very important. If we start kids out right, then they will be better of when it come to physical activity in and out of school. These will be things they can carry on with them for the rest of their lives. I was just wondering your thoughts about this and if you could elaborate on this idea a little. Thank you, Luke |

Lucas that is a very valid point you bring up. Children are very impressionable at a young age, so it is crucial that you introduce physical activity in a good way. |

well luke, like jessica said children are something else. I do believe that at a young age u must teach them the right things in Physical Education If not then they will be not messed up but will not have the skills that they need to succed in life later. |

I would hope that your assessment drives instruction. The reason we test is to see if the children actually learned what we taught. Think about this from another professions point of view. If we had a advertising campaign, we would want to know if the campaign was doing what we intended, which is to get people to buy our product. Assessment should drive instruction not the other way around. I think sometimes we are so interested in making sure kids like physical activity, that we forget we are professionals, the idea being that someone not trained could not do our jobs as well. Students will like physical activity because we structure our lessons so that the can achieve success and they can see a change in behaivor--because they are actually learning something. |
