I'm wondering if the sport of Parkour/Free Running would make a good unit in secondary Physical Education? For those who are unfamiliar with Parkour, it combines running, plyometrics, and gymnastics skills. It doesn't require much equipment other than running shoes and loose fitting clothing. What are your thoughts? |

I've been wondering the same. If you check out many of the exercises posted on websites such as www.americanparkour.com , there are plenty of core, leg, chest, and arm exercises which can be beneficial to a students physical health. I believe it would be very helpful to teach students to at least exercise these muscles and possibly show them some basics of parkour/freerunning. Possibly opening up a door to future fitness habits or hobbies as they grow older. |
