I was thinking about starting a rugby lesson to my middle school students. I was wondering if this is still to young to teach this lesson, or even a wise lesson to teach at all. And if it is, any ideas for skills to teach?

Get rugby going. It is a great game and there are many different modifications you can make to the rules. We play a lot of "Touch" which has less contact and therefore less liklehood to put kids off. It can be played with as few as 5-a side or as many as 10/11 a side.
I am sure you will find lesson plans etc on the web.
