I know as an athlete back in high school I always responded better to coaches who took time to know me more than just as an athlete. Now as a coach, I myself try my best to do the same with my athletes by connecting with them on and off the athletic field by doing various things such as; watching them compete in other sports and connecting with them and their family post-athletic events. The point I'm drawing to is what is your outlook on coaches reaching out to get to know athletes more? How has it effected your performance in the past? What are other areas/ideas for coaches to reach out to their players? |
