Should high school athletes be taken out of games for mental errors during game play? |

I would say in a PE class no. They are just learning a new game, having fun, and being active. If you are coaching a sport I think that you should take your athlete out for a play or two to discuss their mistake with them to get them mentally prepared for when they go back in. |

I would say it depends on how often the occurence is and the personality of the athlete. High school isn't the pros. Are you talking about a freshman on JV or a Senior on Varsity? If it is a big enough mental error that (take into consideration the athletes ability to handle pressure, etc.) it is likely to snowball and cause them to commit more mental errors and possible physical errors then yes pull them. But I don't think I would sit them the rest of the game. It's important that you tell them why you took them out and how they can prevent making the same mistake next time. |
