What grade level is the right time to start lifting in high school for any sport? Is Junior High(grades 7-9) too young? Is 3 times a week too much or too little?

When i was in high school they had us start weight lifting in 9th grade. Students should start strength training as early as elementary school though doing body weight activities such as pull ups, push ups, climbing monkey bars, and other upper body activities. As far as lifting in the weight room goes i would start kids in about 9th grade keeping a close eye on them making sure they use light weight and don't overdue it. Start with 2 or 3 times a week and progress to about 5 times a week when students are seniors in high school.
