Should it be a legal requirement for soccer coaches at club level to have some sort of coaching qualifications, or is it accepted that people are paying for their son/daughter to play for a team where some coaches are no more qualified than the parents of the kids playing soccer?

I think a lot of times at the club level there is not an over abundance of prospects for coaching. So even though it might be nice to have certain qualifications for coaches to ensure quality coaching for children, it is just not practical. In the end you must have a coach. Even an unqualified coach is better for kids than no coach at all.

I think that the parents should set up the expectations. If they want a coach that has a soccer coaching liscense and the coach does not have one, find a club that suits the expectations.

Different clubs will have different expecations of their coaches.

I think what would be more important is that the coach has had first aid and athletic injury training.

I agree with the two response posts. Additionally, I think that the level at which the coach is instructing should involve the child's opinion. If the child wants to pursue higher levels of soccer then the coaches that those individuals should look for are those having more soccer knowledge which may involve coaching licenses. If the child is playing for exercise, fun, and a more recreational purpose than the coach may not need to be as qualified as those at the higher level. If the child believes they are improving and learning quality soccer information from the coach then the coach is doing a good job.
