What is the appropriate age to introduce hockey to students and what is the best equipment to use in order to ensure students safety while playing?

I teach in a 3-5 building and we do floor hockey for all three grades. We use foam sticks and modified pucks to reduce any injury concerns. We concentrated mainly on skills with stick handling and passing games at the end of classes. The last week of our unit we play 4-4. As a whole this is probably our students favorite unit.
