I am a PE teacher teaching grades 11 and 12 my students would rather play one on one basketball in class rather than as a team should i allow this to happen? My personal opinion is that they should play as a team and that is what we've been doing for all activities should i switch it up to one on one for them? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thanks

Obviously as a physical education teacher our job is to keep children physically active for the short amount of time that we are given. Because of this, i think that one on one would be a bad idea because that would leave a lot of students just standing around doing nothing. You could say to them that if they would like to play basketball one on one that you will have the gym open after class for a short period of time. But my opinion is to just stick with what you are doing because it is keeping everyone active. Hope this helps.

I have to agree that playing one on one isn't the best idea. You could send 2 kids to a hoop to play but there may not be enough hoops for everyone to be playing one on one all at once. Also, learning the sport includes learning how to work with your team members, such as passing, moving without the ball, and setting picks; all of which you can't practice during a one on one game.

I think that this all depends on how many hoops you have in your gym and how many kids you have in each class. If you have a small amount of kids and alot of hoops that I would say that playing one on one games is fine. The main concern that I have is if everyone is active and if you can accomplish this even by letting them play one on one then go for it.
