Everyone knows that High School sports are surrounded by politics from parents to school administration. What is the best way to go about dealing with politics as a high school coach?

The best thing you can do is establish a set of guidelines at the beginning of the season that regulate playing time. Make it known what standards you are looking for in each athlete in order to "earn" playing time. Most of the times, the athletes who think they will play because of who they are will eliminate themselves for not following the guidelines making your choice simple. Just make sure these guidelines are presented in some way either in a team meeting, or even a team contract.
