When coaching High School Softball recently I had a player that felt she should be playing instead of the starter. After one of the games her Dad approached me yelling, that I had made his daughter cry every day after practice because she was not starting. I told her father that it was her first year and that she was still learning and that in practice she did get several opportunities to play but that I didn’t feel she was ready for game situation playing time. I also told her Dad that in the beginning of the season I addressed that if any player had an issue with their position or playing time, that they address their issue with me first, so that I could help them in any way to improve what they needed help with. Unfortunately, the girl did not address me and I hadn’t an idea that she was having such an issue over her playing time. If she have approached me prior do you think that this issue would have occurred. How could I have handled this better or what would you do put in this situation? |
