I was offered a coaching position last year to coach wrestling at my old high school which is not far from where I attend college now. Would this be a good idea to do since I am still a student? Are there pros and cons to this? |

Depending on how far it is and your schedule, it could be a great opportunity for you. It would build your resume up along with giving you more experience. It may also get your foot in the door in case any job offers open up. If you work well with the athletes and the rest of the staff, the administration may look at you first. However, if you run yourself too thin, your grades could slip and you could begin to break down your body. It really all depends on how much you can handle and how many sacrafices you are willing to make. If I were you, I would go for it! |

I was also offered a coaching job back at my old high, but I decided not to take it because it was too far away to travel everyday, and I would not have been able to fully commit myself to the position. I know it is something I want to do in the future when I get out of school, so I got an assistant job at the neighboring high school to gain some coaching experience and not have all the weight on my shoulders. I feel that I made a good decision holding off on a full time head coaching position and I realize there will been opportunities for me to follow my coaching ambitions when the time is right. |

I live to far from my high school in order to coach. When I am home for breaks from school I always help out. This is something that I enjoy and when the time is right later in my life I would like to pursue. I feel that helping out when I have breaks from school is good because I don't have to worry about classes and school work and I can see what it is like to be a coach. |

I go to school close to my old high school as well and took a job coaching track. I also am taking a full course load and hold a full time job. People say I'm crazy, but I love it. If you have good time management and a desire to do the job than everything works out. You have to know what is expected of you and not neglect any of the three aspects. This looks very good on a resume and the experience is very beneficial not only in the coaching profession, but the teaching profession as well. |
