For you coaches out there in any sport, have you ever kicked a player off of an athletic team? Does your school have specific guidelines or a manner of going about this sort of thing. In your eyes, what would have to happen in order to kick a kid off the team you coach. I think the dilemma is that is kicking that certain kid off of your team good in the long run for your player. Of course you have to take into consideration the rest of the players on your team, and his/her family/social life. |

I have never kicked anyone off of my teams. However I wanted to. I have had a few players quit the team. I think kicking an athlete off the team is the worst thing you can do for them. I have a process that I tell my players before every season. They know what will happen if they break the rules or miss practice. One of two things usually happens. The athlete ends up quitting the team because they cannot deal w/ the consequences, or they stick it out. The ones that stick it out are usually become some of the better players on the team. Once the players know you will enforce the team rules, they get with the program. I give them as many chances as possible. |

I am not a coach but i have been on several sports teams where I have seen some of my teammates get kicked off. And it not a good thing to do. Some of the players that I have seen get kicked off turned to drugs, partying all day and get in trouble by the law. If they decide to quit you should talk to the parents to help encourage the student to come back, but you should never beg the student to come back. |
