When I was in high school we had a particular athlete try to play on the baseball team and run track. I don't believe this should be aloud by high schools. He often missed practices for baseball and didn't get much playing time. Do you think this should even be aloud? |

Allowing a player to do two sports should be fine. Track is pretty much individual so that practice time is easier. Hey, if the kid is good enough for both let him go at it. |

Playing two sports in the same season is necessary for some schools to have enough students to participate in the school's athletics. Also, if a student is good enough to play two sports why would you penalize the athlete and keep him/her from playing one of the sports they love. |

I think unless the athlete abuses the right to be allowed to come to practices late or skip practices for the other sports games there should be no problem at all. If a high school kid can manage to swing two sports in the same season why would you hold them back? Sports are so much more than competing, being at practice, and so on. Prioritizing games over practices or some practices over the others gives them great practice for later in life when they run into schedule conflicts for example with work and another area. As a coach or a parent however, I think it is important that the athlete knows where he/she stands on both teams and when which team needs him/her more. In order to play two sports in the same season successfully there needs to be a solid sense of honest and open communication. Never hold someone back from being great, even if it means two things at one time! |
