It is of my personal coaching belief that there is nothing more important to a team than chemistry. This word gets tossed around alot especially in the professional and media world but its value can not be overlooked when assessing it as a true attribute to your team. I assess chemistry through a multitude of ways and while you can't always fix it or force it to be there, your only chance to help your team find it is to see it as a coach. Most coaches focus on themselves and their gameplans when in actuality they should be focusing on their team and their best assets and how they can get the most out of each single player. The answer to chemistry to me is simple. It's having your players buy into your system. Having them personally satisfied with it and learning to play as a team how you determine rather than a group of individuals. When all else fails I give them a common enemy to come together to dislike and share a bond. ME. I make myself the bad guy so they share that common bond and learn to grow as a team. Without the team playing as such there can not be success in my opinion. Chemistry is what I strive for but I never preach about to my team. It has to be natural and real. It can't be forced upon but can be created. So under utilized yet so over stated by todays media. |
