I have had both types of coaches. My basketball coach for 9th & 10th grade was "Bobby Knight" style coach and we went to the state championship game twice in three years. He was not always liked byfans or parents but he put W's on the board and he was able to get players to play for him. Then he retired and we had the kind of coach that was everyone's friend. Needless to say, he was much less successful. I want to know others thoughts, thanx. |

It's important to have discipline over your team but it is equally important to develop a good relationship with your team as well in order for them to play for you. The team doesnt really have to like you but they have to respect you. |

You can't be a disciplinarian but at the same time you can't be a push over. In order for your players to play hard for you, you have to develop a special bond amongst your team. This will untimately lead to the team respecting you which will in turn help produce wins. |

It is important to have dicipline on your team but I think that as long as your team respects you and listens when you are coaching. It is a good thing for your team to know that if they every need to talk that you are there to help. |

Kids respond to different ways of coaching. It is our job as coaches to find what style works the best that can get the maximum potential out of the team. |
