During the last few years baseball has become a popular sport for the use of steroids. The players are looking for an easy way to get strong and break records. This gives the message to young athletes that they should also take these drugs to become a standout player. I feel this is wrong and that parents should teach their kids to work hard by lifting weights and become a better player the natural way.

I couldn't agree with you anymore, Bret. All you ever hear about in baseball is the use of steroids, and how the records set in the 1990's (the steroids era) are under the radar. When younger kids hear this all the time, they probably figure "well, Mark McGuire did it and he was one of the best hitters of all time, so maybe I should do it." Obviously, this has become an issue with students. Parents should teach their kids about the harm steroids do, but furthermore I think that physical educators should address this issue as well. It is our responsibility to help the students learn about athletics and live a healthy lifestyle. Certainly if students think it is o.k. to take steroids, then we are not doing our jobs. I will make it a point to address this issue in my physical education classes, and will tell them just how stupid it is to cheat and take steroids.

The way baseball is being portrayed to youngsters is not good for the game at all and is sending out all the wrong messages. There is so many better and legal ways to increase fitness and strength without having to take steroids. The message these so called 'professionals' are giving out is that to be successful and be the best is to cheat. This makes it harder for physical educators to get children to realise that if you want to be successful you have to work hard and honestly, what ever you are doing.
