I was wondering if anybody had any good ideas on how to get parents more involved with there children in physical education. |

At the elementary level I have used: -parents as supervisors/helpers for events such as field day, jump and hoop events for AHA -parents as guest speakers -exercise calendars that give kids bonuses for involving their parents or other adult -involve parents and other adults in school projects such as "Walk to School Day" or something similar That's a start. Use your imagination...parents are eager to be involved. It gives you a chance to show the value of your program and help dismiss the thought of rolling out the ball education. |

Give the parents the opportunity to visit some of the PE class so that they have an idea of whats going on in a PE environment. Have the parents schedule a visit at least one per quarter or semester. |

At an elementary school I observed PE at; the PE teacher required a parent from each class to come and help each time the class attend PE. This really showed the parents what they really did during class. Most of the parents I saw seemed really shocked that their children were learning bones and nutrition; instead of just playing games. One of the parents I talked to said she really loved the idea of coming to help with PE class because her son never really explained what they did, so this way she could see for herself. This is a great way to advocate for PE because the parents really see why it's so essential to have PE in school! This is also a great way to get some extra help for the PE teacher. -Ariel Gonzales (Message edited by arielmarie7 on November 09, 2010) |
