There are a growing number of schools that are becoming site based budgeted and have expectations that PE teachers don't need money. When these teachers come to inservice or trainings, how do you try to motivate them without funding? |

Send them begging to PTO's, encourage PE fundraisers (jump rope for PE) Write grants (I've raised over 2k that way). Make stuff. Go to garage sales for equip. (Ive gotten thousands of dollars in balls, gloves, pogo sticks etc, my dad found lots of it) (Message edited by admin on January 10, 2010) |

I think that one of the best ways to motivate teachers is to help them not feel alone. A few years ago I was burnt out and thinking about changing careers. I went to a highly advanced professional development conference where I met some of the best physical education teachers in the state. It helped me feel like there were other teachers out there that were working really hard at their profession. It helped me to feel that I had someone to turn to. I started a Yahoo Usergroup to stay in contact with them. It has been really helpful when I have a question or need a little nudge. We've grown to over 100 members in the last 3 years. Feeling a sense of community is really important to keep teacher motivated to move forward with their profession. |

Hey MB, could you use another member of your yahoo usergroup? I agree about your comments. When I taught my first 4 years I had a partner. The last 26 Im the only PE teacher and its not always fun. |
