I was wonderinf if haveing students do reports would help to promote PE. If we had our students do research on streching and body compositoin ect... would it help promote our program. Then students would be working on researching, writing, and if you had them present it to the class public speaking. Other teachers couldn't say that our students only played games. Students may not be active but they would still be learning about how to stay healthy. |

I think you have something there. If PE was for the entire year then a research project would be good. It would not have to take away from the regular activity time and the reports could be presented on rainy or cold days inside. I could see it working for my 4/5th grades easily. I would tell them they should be done by the end of January and those that finish first would get bonus points. I would ask for one page reports and give them extra points if done on a word processor. I would also give them lots of ideas for reports or papers. Thanks for a good idea. Im so busy protecting my time to keep them moving I never thought of a long range project that would be positive while not intefering with the class time. |

I think reports in P.E. are a very good idea. They might not be active while working on their reports but they are still doing something that keeps their minds on physical education. Doing reports and research is a great way to learn about a topic. The more they research and learn about P.E. the more they can understand about why they do each activity in P.E. |

I do not think that busy report work would be appropriate for physical education. Perhaps having students make nutrition and workout charts would be a better alternative. |

I feel that having students do reports for phys. ed. may not be the best idea. Like Saul said, nutrition or workout charts are probably a better alternative. If you want children to do research on stretching and body composition, it is probably best to have them do that research for a health class rather than an activity class. I understand the idea behind the research, and I believe it to be a great though, however physical education is meant for activity and not so much about writing papers. I feel there is enough of that in the students' other classes. |
