What is a good way to introduce floor hockey to a class with students that have disabilities ranging from moderate to severe.

I play a game called noodle hockey. It is played with a 7 in gatorskin ball and the pool toy noodles that have been cut in half as the "stick". For the goals, we us a bowling pin with the object of the game to knock your opponent's pin down with the ball. I have used this in my adapted physical education class with great success. It is a great workout so we play it every Friday. Just for the record, my peer tutors think we should play it in the general pe classess also.

In order to include my students with moderate to severe disabilities is to play clean up your own backyard with the hockey sticks and foam pucks. Dividing up the class into halves, I put half of my inclusion students on one team and the others on the opposing team. I then coordinate helpers for both teams who help the students to play by the rules and to some moderate success. The object is to send all of the pucks to the opposing team's side. This allows the students to work on their skills as well as not get embarassed by not doing well. So far, I have had nothing but success using this method.

Good luck!
George
