I volunteer for an adaptive program and the kids we work with have autism. The kid I've been assigned to has trouble focusing and often zones out. I saw his mother wave her hand in front of his face to regain his focus. What are some other ways to regain his attention? I would really appreciate some suggestions! |

One thing that worked for me in that program is to find the thing that he tends to be focusing on. Take a second to talk to him about it and show an interest in what he is interested in then slowly engage him back into the activity. Sometimes he may just want you to show interest and be excited about something he likes. |

Show him a picture of what you'd like him to be doing. Visual supports! |
