Has anyone attempted to use the Wii system for adaptive physical education? We are going to write a grant for the equipment and wanted some feedback to include on our rationale! Thanks! |

I recently worked with an adapted PE class at the junior high level. The students loved using the Wii's. Some students preferred to play Wii Sports such as bowling, tennis, and baseball, but there were other students who loved Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) and Michael Jackson The Experience. DDR and Michael Jackson really had the kids moving. If the grant goes through, I would recommend you get several different games for the students to experiment with. |

I have also worked with students who have a disability and the Wii, plus I own a Wii myself. I believe the Wii is a great tool to use in the physical education classrooms. I do suggest having lots of different games for the students to use. it gives them the ability to have a chose. With the Wii I feel the students get a way to interact with the game, gives them a way to interact (socialize) with others their own age. Another piece of technology that might work that I have experience outside the classroom but i have not yet tried it in the classroom. I think it would work it's called a connect for the X-Box because you body is the control and it makes you use your whole body to finish the game. I think the Wii or connect system would be a great way to involve the students in a physical education classroom. |
